Just because the weather is cold and drab doesn’t mean your house has to look cold and drab.
Here are a few tips to keep your house and surroundings appealing through the cold winter
months.
First of all, as in all weather seasons, you want to keep things tidy. If you have snowfall, leaves
or other debris, clear them off your walkways and driveway. Keep lawn equipment, garden tools, and toys put away after use so as to not look sloppy.
Without leaves on the trees your house is much more visible. This would be a good time to
freshen up the paint job and do any obvious needed repairs to your home’s exterior.
Clean out the gutters and shine your windows.
Add pops of color to your entryway. You might consider painting your front door a bold color for
interest. Or if you prefer just a splash of color, you might opt for a beautiful winter wreath on
your front door. Update your front porch planters with cold hardy plants.
Keep your yard alive with plants that thrive through the winter such as evergreens, pansies, and
other winter shrubbery. Add interest with a dry rock bed. Although your trees are bare, you can
liven them up with string lights for a beautiful ambiance throughout your yard.
Replace your house numbers. Without the distraction of beautiful trees and flowers, the little
things are more noticeable. Possibly your house numbers could use an update with a more
modern font or maybe just new to make it look cleaner.
Extend the updates to your mailbox, which is often overlooked. This is a great time to repaint,
perhaps adding a pop of color here as well. Add a few cold-weather plants for texture.
Remember, although winter is drab, you can keep your curb appeal bright and lively by
incorporating some of these ideas.
