When you are sitting in your backyard and being bothered by mosquitoes, you might have noticed bats flying back and forth above you. An active bat can eat about 8,000 mosquitoes in a night, so it is definitely beneficial for you to have them around. Some people even go to the length of installing bat-homes around their property to attract bats. If the bats decide to make your attic their home, however, they can quickly go from a benefit to a nuisance.
Bats in your attic can spread disease from their droppings, and they can make it difficult for you to get up into your attic without having bats swarming around your head.
Having a light on in the attic could discourage bats from entering since they are nocturnal, but if this isn’t enough to keep them away, you might need to install one way excursion devices at any openings they might use to get into the attic. This will let them exit but not get back in again.
